This post is long overdue. Everytime that I thought I would be able to make a post, I had something else come up that needed done more or I was so tired I couldn't do anything other than lay on the couch or even go to bed and sleep. Yes, I have done that as early as 9 pm recently. At 25, that seems pretty lame, but that's how exhausted I've been. Little B still shows no interest in sleeping and so Daddy B and Momma B haven't got to pay it the attention it deserves either. Little B had his nine month checkup on the 22nd (okay, so technically it was eight months and 30 days!) and it was the first appointment where they asked us if he was sleeping through the night and when we said no, he wakes up three to seven times every night they looked at us like we were aliens. Of course, with the lack of sleep we often go on, we usually feel like someone is invading our bodies. Little B definitely has a lot of gas so we've started giving him gas drops at night. I've taken the suggestion of a friend and started trying to keep his warm/body somewhat warmer. We are actually wearing fuzzy Christmas pajamas that were generously given to us by Daddy B's cousin. I really need to pickup a few more footed fuzzy pairs since Little B sometimes pees through. and the warmth seems to have cut down wakeups some in the past few days from up to seven times to up to four. It's a start but I'm not sure we've found a cure. I think Little B just enjoys laughing at how tired we are and how much energy he has no matter the time of day.

But, back to the six weeks of time missed. Towards the end of August, we went to Evansville to see my family including my Uncle Roger and cousin RJ from California. Little B had a blast and didn't miss a beat entertaining everyone. He was still taken with cousin Kate just as he was in meeting her in May, but he found a new woman in my cousin Adam's girlfriend. I think he thought Abbie was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen the way he'd gaze at her. Kind of like Little K with me, right Momma K?
Sitting on Abbie's lap makes me one of the happiest boys in the world!

The very next weekend, we went to Elizabethtown, KY for the annual tennis match Daddy B's side of the family holds. It was a weekend full of lots of laughter and fun. Little B slept with Daddy B and Momma B the second night and he slept through the night! I really think he just craves that close connection with us. Of course, we ended up awake at one point because he was jabbing Momma B in the sides with his feet because he'd turned himself sideways. Again he was very pleasant and entertaining the whole weekend. He may not be the best car traveler, but once we get where we are going he does great! It was funny watching him and his cousin Kate together because she's going through that stage of it all being "mine." For once it wasn't Little B taking toys from Little J! Unfortunately, Grandaddy didn't take our message of winning for his grandson to heart...it was yet again another loss and disappointment. And yet, we keep coming back :) Grandaddy, we hope you take this year to practice, practice, practice so that your game is upped for next year! Good luck!
On our way back from Elizabethtown, we stopped in Louisville with Granddaddy, Nana, and Uncle E. Little B had a ball being carried in his special carrier and being carted around place to place. We had a really long wait at the restaurant - Joe's Crab Shack - and we both figured Little B would lose it before we were done but he did great. Especially since right before his daddy hit his head against something making a big mark on his head. Uncle E is continuing his attempt to work towards learning his patience from Little B. It was a beautiful day and a nice stop along the way to enjoy some family time.

On the 18th, Momma B and Daddy B enjoyed a day away from Little B when they traveled to the Purdue game. Little B stayed with friends for over 8 hours! He did great and even enjoyed his first seesaw ride! He always enjoys something new when he visits them - earlier in the year it was playing with a hula hoop! It was nice to have a break but we were very ready to see our little man at the end of the day.

Milestones in the last month: September 5 he stood on his own. On the 19th, he took his first couple of steps! To follow that up 10 days later, he took three quick determined steps to get to a toy. This was what Momma B has deemed his first walk. We also have started enjoying big boy food as of the 22nd because Dr. V. said he was ready. He's enjoyed chowing down on a lot but we have discovered he really doesn't care for broccoli. In fact, today I had given him broccoli and carrots and I watched him pickup carrots and look at the broccoli that he'd got with it and drop it from his hands. Sadly, our first family dinner didn't occur until the 25th. We've always ate after he goes to bed because it's just been easier. Now that he's eating big boy food though, we've been able to eat together a little more often. For our first family dinner, we enjoyed spaghetti and garlic bread and he had his own spiral noodles with meat sauce and bananas on the side. He loved it! I could eat spaghetti at least once a week and I think Little B has also found a love for it! He's also got a big boy car seat now. None of us are sure how we feel about it yet. It's awkward being rear facing/bigger than his old car seat and trying to get him in and out. I'd like any thoughts from other parents out there on the issue of how long he should be rear facing beyond a year.

We enjoyed a trip to the park on one of the first days of fall. It was beautiful outside and we had the park to ourselves for most of the trip. Momma B had been to this park many times to supervise visits for clients, but it was the first time she'd taken Little B to this park. It was definitely an eye opener for how you look at things as parents because the park was old and dirty and Momma B had never really noticed this in the past. He definitely enjoyed the swings but the slide was also great fun for him. We just wished they would have had one his size.

And a couple more photos that just couldn't be missed!
At St. Paul's with Daddy B
On my way back to Muncie after a good visit in Evansville
Little B enjoying his very first Titans game with Daddy B. One of two had their game face on. Unfortunately, the Titans lost and it was a very sad result for Daddy B.
Momma K's niece. Little B definitely thinks the sun rises and sets with her when she's around. She kept him entertained for the entire dinner to celebrate Uncle K's birthday just by being herself and sharing a small skateboard with him. He laughs at everything she does.
Taking a walk with our two favorite boys. They REALLY enjoyed this walk!
I will attempt to do better and keep this updated more often so that it's not so tragically long. Unfortunately for you readers, I couldn't cut much because it was all so eventful!
i turned ava around when she turned one because i knew she'd enjoy seeing more this way. "they" recommend keeping kids rear facing 'til they're 2 i think.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tami! I appreciate it :)
ReplyDeleteI just read that car-safety.org recommends keeping them rear facing as long as they're able to, around 30 to 35 lbs depending on your carseat.
