We had settled on doing pictures at Ball State University. Why? That's where Daddy B and I went to school, got engaged, graduated from, and he started his life as a married man. Whenever I drive by Beneficence, I can't help but reflect back to the evening when Daddy B proposed to me and asked me to be his wife. I remember he had a poem he'd worked on written out but he forgot to bring it and so he winged it instead. I remember wearing the jacket that had the ring in it and thinking that I felt a small box inside but not wanting to get disappointed and yet hopping with excitement on the inside when he got down on one knee. We both look back and laugh because it had rained that night and so when he got down on one knee and proposed, my immediate response was "Get up! You're getting your pants wet." So, to be able to do our pictures there was an amazing experience reliving all of that. However, Little B did not enjoy having his picture taken. He wanted to explore starting at Beneficence. Since she has water flowing out of her robes, that must mean we came here to splash around, right Mommy?
And then it's on to the trees that MommaB so desperately wanted pictures with since fall is her favorite season with all the colors and crisp air. "This is fun for a while Mommy, but I'm over it now and would like to run."
After Little B's run, we thought we could get that fall picture I wanted. After some wrangling and Patrick's patience, we had some great shots! Of course, we did have to make Little B think we were just playing because otherwise he was squirming to go off to his next spot. Little B, don't you know that Mommy and Daddy took a slow walk in the quad the night they got engaged?
And then we headed off to Duck pond. We spent some time studying there or just relaxing and enjoying time with each other. Given, ducks are dirty creatures so you had to bring a blanket, but Little B is too young to understand this. So, he enjoyed his time by the lake while at least Momma B tried not to freak as he ran towards it multiple times.
"Let me go and I'll get those ducks! Finally some space you guys are letting me run around. And there's water. I LOVE water! This is the most fun yet! You and Daddy are going to take a couple pictures you say? That's fine by me! I'll be trying to find a way to sneak out of your sight so I can get in the pond and get those ducks!"
Ball State will always hold a special place in our hearts because this is where our relationship started. For me as a freshman and for Daddy B when he joined me his freshman year. It's the town where we've remained and where Little B was born. Not to be corny, but it is the place we call home.
