Mid-October Business

All summer, I was looking for a Cozy Coupe for Little B. I couldn't justify spending full price on it though when we don't have a great driveway to use it in. But, someone was selling one in the garage sale for the great price of $10 so I snagged it. Little B loves it! He is always asking about going outside and riding in his car. If I would have known it would have been this big of a hit, I would've went for it a while ago!

Unfortunately, not only did he have to share his new toy with J who was there for a couple hours, within a few hours after giving it to him, it was time for him to head to Evansville. Momma B and Daddy B were getting a few days kid-free while Little B enjoyed time with the grandparents. While I'd love to share pictures, I don't have many (ahem, grandparents!!!!) :) Momma B and Daddy B enjoyed a few dinners out, movies, and just general downtime. It was lovely and very much needed.

During our free time, we checked out some daycares for Little B. We went in with the hope of sending him part time if it was reasonable cost or holding a spot for him until Daddy B goes to work full time. We found the best of both worlds! The daycare we chose is based at a church. It is ran by a lady that used to work at various daycares including a great - yet expensive! - daycare in Muncie who got tired of paying out the wazoo for her kids to go there. The flexibility at this daycare says to me that they truly are there for the kids and their families. There is a rate for 25 hours or less (hours used however during the week) or more than 25 hours and this is totaled each week dependent on family needs. There's great structure and curriculum with lots of hands on learning activities. When we took Little B and toured later in the month, they were doing shaving cream drawings on the table. There are 8 days for part-time kids that can be used at no cost to the parent without notice. Preschool starts at three instead of five and he doesn't have to be potty trained. The rooms are full of wonderful toys and the staff really seems to know their kids. The best part is they welcome parents anytime especially for activities and there is a gym for cold/rainy days which will be great for my full energy child! And the part that really sealed the deal, not only does a small deposit hold his spot without us using it, but she offered to do half days for a very reasonable rate to help him adjust/give us extra work time now instead of having to wait due to finances until Daddy B goes full-time. He did great when we took him to visit. He was shy and clingy the first few minutes, but then started playing with another little boy who hopped down off his seat to play with him. It was sort of like the little boy knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to help. When we went to leave, he threw an absolute fit! I will take that as a good sign! So, he will start the first full week of November!!!

Then, we tried potty training since he'd shown interest. We went with the bare butt method because it seemed to have the best and quickest results. Momma B went out and bought a potty, searched high and low for potty books (I thought this would be an easy task but apparently, even with a major bookstore, potty training books aren't high on the priority list for parents or kids?), pull-ups, and party blowers for when he went in the potty. Yet all of this work was to no avail at this point in time. We had seven accidents within four hours, one of which was right next to the potty where I'd decided we should play so he could just hop on when he needed to go. He doesn't even go to the bathroom this often when he wears diapers. Needless to say, he wasn't ready. Which is perfectly fine. He will be ready in his own time. This week, he's started telling us when his diaper is dirty and becoming insistent about being changed, so hopefully it's another step in the right direction. We will try again in another few months and until then, we will continue using his cute diapers with beautiful colors and patterns.

And that brings us to this weekend, we have had an "I-Only-Want-My-Mommy-And-Daddy-Doesn't-Come-Close-To-Being-Acceptable" mood for the last few days. This last week he's started getting his last set of teeth - second year molars - but it's the first time that his teeth have made him utterly miserable. Screaming, writhing, only popsicles will make it better type miserable. And so, Momma B hopes these teeth come in soon so we can go back to happy, easy-going Little B.
